Technology has changed the way we live our lives, adding convenience in many ways. We take advantage of these technological advancements with the goal of providing our patients with more accurate and comfortable dentistry. Modern dentistry combined with our personal approach to care results in beautiful, happy smiles.
Dr. Steven Bussell invests in our patients by bringing the latest technology to our Royal Palm Beach dental office. Here are some of the ways that we use the latest technology to provide you with high-quality dentistry.
CBCT - Cone Beam 3D Imaging
Cone Beam 3D imaging, allows us to create virtually unlimited views of your teeth with just one scan. With the Carestream 8100 3D CBCT, we are able to obtain high-quality, detailed information to better diagnose and plan your treatment needs. This technology is especially useful when planning tooth extractions or to see how much bone is present when figuring out if dental implants can be supported.
Digital Dental X-Rays
X-rays are an integral part of the preventive dentistry we provide. While many patients have concerns about radiation, with the use of digital x-rays, those concerns are unnecessary. Digital dental x-rays emit up to 80 percent less radiation than traditional film x-rays. Many studies show that you will have more radiation exposure simply by spending time outside.
The images we capture using digital technology provide high-resolution images for Dr. Bussell to review. He can zoom in, adjust contrast and exposure, and compare images to past x-rays on the treatment room monitors.
As an added benefit, digital x-rays are friendlier to the environment, eliminating the need to develop film with harmful chemicals.
Digital impressions eliminate the need for gooey impression material and capture the shape of your teeth more accurately. Digital impressions also reduce distortions and air bubbles, which can inadvertently lead ill-fitting dental restorations.
Rather than using an impression tray, we scan your tooth to obtain a 3-D image and upload it into our computer software for our dental lab or clinical staff to use in the creation of dental crowns, bridges, or other restorative dentistry.
Digital records improve our charting and accuracy in many ways:
- Secure encrypted storage
- Easy comparisons of x-rays over time
- Fast claim processing with insurance companies or HSA
- Easy communication with specialists
- Protected personal information
Your vital information, medical history, and identification are safe with us, stored in an encrypted system under lock and key.
How many times have you taken a close look inside your mouth? Without the proper instruments, it's impossible to see every tooth. Intraoral cameras are small handheld devices that take digital photos of individual teeth, areas of the mouth, or even soft tissue lesions. Dr. Bussell uses an intraoral camera to take pictures inside your mouth, so you can see what he sees.
Intraoral cameras make it possible for patients to see what's really going on and assist them in making decisions regarding their oral health. We can also forward these images to insurance companies who require more information to approve a claim.
Rotary endodontic instruments make it possible to complete root canal therapy faster and more accurately while reducing the instances of failure. Small titanium rotary instruments gently and effectively remove diseased tissue from the canal and allow the healing process to begin. These specialized instruments reduce vibration and make the root canal process more pleasant for our patients.
While individual x-rays give us valuable information for diagnosing decay, infection, and other oral conditions, panoramic x-rays provide us with an overall view of teeth, bone, and jaw joints that assists in the planning of dental implant placement or tooth extraction. Panoramic x-rays also show bone levels and can help Dr. Bussell identify certain types of cysts and tumors.
A panoramic x-ray is taken by standing still while the x-ray until moves around your head. The entire process takes just a few seconds.
When it's necessary to surgically treat gum tissue, laser dentistry eliminates pain and gives Dr. Bussell greater precision. Patients experience less bleeding, faster recovery times, and an overall more pleasant procedure.
Laser dentistry is also beneficial when performing frenectomies, eliminating tongue ties, and reshaping the gums with gingival sculpting for cosmetic reasons.
